Anthony Bowden

M. Ed, MSW

Anthony Bowden is the visionary founder of The Pivot Schools, a dynamic educational institution focused on innovative and career-oriented learning. Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, Anthony has deep roots in South Carolina, with his family originating from McCormick, SC, and spending many formative summers in the state. Both raised by two impactful educators and also being a father to a son, his passion for education and community development has been significantly shaped by these experiences.

Anthony is committed to reimagining the schooling experience and creating a learning institution designed to meet the unique academic and social/emotional needs of students.

His career highlights include serving as a Manager in the Special Education Department for DC Public Schools, where he oversaw special education services for 46,000 students across 115 schools.

He supported school leaders in adhering to federal and state requirements and helped teachers deliver quality instruction to special populations. As a school administrator, Anthony prioritized school culture and student climate, understanding that a safe learning environment is crucial for impactful learning and development. Anthony’s professional learning journey includes a number of different fellowships. Anthony is currently participating in the Public Charter School Alliance of South Carolina Incubator Program, which is designed to support and nurture newly established charter schools in the state. This involvement underscores his commitment to educational excellence and his dedication to bringing transformative learning opportunities to South Carolina’s youth. His interest in improving reading literacy in young students of color inspired him to write and publish his first children’s book, “The Day Jake Went To College,” in 2016. Anthony’s life is dedicated to inspiring youth and giving back to underserved communities through coaching, leading schools, writing children’s books, and now opening a charter school.
